The basic design sketching course II

Understand and learn the essential elements that must be represented in a product sketch through a variety of case images. You'll also apply what you've learned to your sketches to create a final product sketch. This is a very important step in learning how to expand your sketches into different forms.

Hi, I’m [JeongMo Han]

My name is JeongMo Han, the instructor of Sketch Factory.

Just as building a house requires a strong foundation, a basic product design course is the most important foundation for improving your product sketching skills.

This is because most of the products around us, such as electronics, household items, furniture, bags, etc., can be easily drawn using the basic method.

As you progress from basic shapes to more detailed, product-like sketches, you'll see a noticeable improvement in your skills.

Sketch Factory's unique basic sketching course, refined and created through countless years of experience, is easy to follow for both majors and non-majors alike.

Are you worried because you don't have experience with sketching?

Don't worry.

In this class, I'll share all of my sketching methods and tricks. :)

We're going to learn things like

#5 Chapter

Two Perspectives of a Designer Looking at a Product-1

'Rounded Edges of a Product'

As product designers or aspiring designers, we need the ability to observe products in detail with a special perspective that goes beyond the ordinary.
First, let's look at the round edge 'R-value' of the product in detail through various case images, and we'll learn how to express it.

Apply various 'R-values' to boxes and cylinders and draw various products using them.

#6 Chapter

Two Perspectives of a Designer Looking at a Product-2

'Parting lines of a Product'

We're going to learn about the 'parting line' which is the line that forms where two surfaces of a product meet in detail. And then we'll learn about how to distinguish it by looking at various case products and how to express it.

We'll also take a closer look at the four different important types of parting lines and apply them to some products.

#7 Chapter

Arrows & Captions
'Effective communication'

Let's learn about arrows and explanatory text used in sketches. The arrows and descriptive text not only make our sketch easier for others to understand but also make the sketch appear more convincing and concrete.

Practice the arrow shapes and handwriting that are often used in sketches, and apply them to the product.

#8 Chapter

Let's do a 'C+R+P' Product Sketch

'Final Product Sketch'

'We will sketch a total of 12 products'

Let's sketch products, applying the essentials of product sketching.
C: Center-line / R: R-value / P: Parting-line

We are going to do a final sketch using all the courses we've learned so far.
+ Simple Marker coloring and Sketch Layout Method

FEEDBACK

At the end of the course(8-3), you can leave a comment. Take a picture of your best sketch that you've ever practiced and attach it.

I'll review your sketches. And if there are any mistakes, I will correct them and give some feedback.

Seeing other students' sketches is also a great way to check your own and improve your skills.

I recommend this course for people like these

  • Students and professionals of design, including product design, furniture design, leather goods design, fashion accessory design, shoe design, glasses design, and architectural design, etc.
  • Anyone interested in sketching, who wants to express their ideas with their own hands.
  • Those who want to learn how to sketch directly with a pen, without a pencil and eraser, and how to draw cleanly and quickly.
  • Those who can't seem to improve their sketching skills, no matter how hard they try.

'Don't waste your time'

My sketching journey has been full of challenges, trial and errors. Through this course, I wanted to make sure you don't go through the many trial and errors I've experienced, and to ensure you to learn solid sketch techniques without wasting time on unnecessary steps.

For those of you who are working hard to improve your sketch skills, I hope you'll build up your skills step by step, through the basic product sketching course of Sketch Factory, following the correct method. Remember, sketching is not something you're born with. Anyone can do it well with passion, diligence, and consistent practice.

I wish you the best of luck in your design journey ahead, and I hope this class will be a great help to you.

With Sketch Factory, anyone can be good at product sketching.
